Ossett Albion were delighted when they claimed 3rd
place in the annual Gawthorpe Maypole Parade on Saturday 1st May.
Brenda Kerr, Girls Development Officer for Ossett Albion said "There
were some fantastic floats that took part and we couldn't believe it
when we were announced in third place"
"We wanted to promote girls football and let everyone in the
community know about Summer Football Scheme. We thought that the
best way to do that was to enter a float into the procession of the
biggest community event in our area" The maypole is one of the
largest events that takes place in Ossett and there must have been
at least 5,000 people watching the procession. It certainly enabled
us to promote girls football in the local area and gave our players
a great day out at the same time"
Girls football is the fastest growing sport in the UK and our summer
football runs on every Tuesday between 6pm and 7pm on the Astroturf
at Ossett Cricket and Football Club. It gives girls the chance to
try football. The coaches use a variety of exciting activities for
players to learn the fundamental basic skills and techniques used in
football, making it fun and enjoyable for all and allowing the to
make new friends at the same time.
"The girls had a great fun and were absolutely shattered after
completing the 4.5 mile route" added Brenda
"A big thanks you must go to our sponsor on the day Clinton North
Builders" for proving the wagon and refreshments for the girls".
